Hy-Vee International

In 2007 and 2008 Rasmus Henning (right) Earned just over $100,000 per hour he raced in Des Moines, Iowa. He won the ITU Elite Championship each of the event's first two years, earning $200,000 for each win. Nearly the entire elite field came off the bikes together. A group of five great runners soon broke from the field. Hunter Kemper (left) and Andy Potts were racing for the third and final spot on the US olympic triathlon team. Henning of Denmark out ran the pack of Bevan Docherty, Greg Bennett, Ivan Rana, and Simon Whitfield with a 31:32 10k. From the looks of it, atop the bleachers at the finish line, I thought for sure Bevan Docherty (check out how fast Bevan is here) would sit and kick, but Henning pulled away and opened a 10 second gap on the other 4 leaders.
My race didn't pan out as well as I had hoped. In a sport with so many details, I've yet to have a "perfect" race. Almost all went according to plan except for the fact that there are never enough port-a-pots at races. I was unable to unload my bowels (#2)prior to the swim leaving me feeling the way Mugatu feels after consuming a foamy latte (farty and bloated). Relatively speaking (typing), I swam well 23:31, which was a 3 minute 1500 PR. Unfortunately I biked and ran below average, finishing 23rd overall at 207:17. Colin, also of Endure It, knocked off nearly eight minutes from last years time, and finished 13th overall at 2:03:40. On another note, the past two months I have been feeling like one of the malnourished, anemic horses on the sides of the roads in St. Croix. I got some blood work done, and am awaiting my final numbers on those. My past three weeks of running I only managed, 2, 10, 14 miles, respectively. My legs have felt completely trashed. Last week I put in over 12 hours on the bike, and had some solid swim yardage.
